Local-first, in plain language
Pouncify is a desktop app, not a cloud service. That one design decision does most of the privacy work — here is the whole picture, without legalese.
What runs where
Everything happens on your computer: the marketplace checking, the deal analysis, the database of listings, your saved searches, your settings and your marketplace logins. There is no Pouncify server that executes your searches, and no copy of your data anywhere else. If you log in to Facebook inside the app, that session is stored in a local browser profile on your machine and used only there.
What leaves your machine
- The marketplace checks themselves — your computer talks directly to Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp and Kijiji, the same way your browser would.
- Alerts you configure — sent through the channel you chose (Telegram, email, Discord, or push to a paired phone) using your own credentials for that channel.
- Update checks — the app asks the public releases page whether a newer version exists.
- Crash and error reports — when something in the app breaks, it automatically reports what broke (the type of failure and where in the app's own code), plus the app version and OS, so bugs get found and fixed — never your searches, listings, logins or location. Error messages are scrubbed before sending so they can't carry your search text.
- Anonymous usage statistics — sent to our own server: app version, OS, a random install identifier (there are no accounts, so it can't be linked to a name, email or purchase), which features are used, how schedules, limits and notification channels are configured, and your saved search terms and filters — always without your city, ZIP or any location. Used only to improve the app; never sold or shared.
That's the complete list for the desktop app on its own. Your logins, your collected listings and your location never leave your machine. Search terms travel only as described above — anonymously, with nothing that ties them to you — and nothing is ever sold to anyone.
If you pair a phone
The phone apps aren't released yet, and pairing one is always optional. A paired phone reaches your computer through a relay server we run — it passes traffic along, and nothing is stored there. Push notifications go via Expo and then Apple's or Google's push service, like any other app. Never pair a phone and none of this applies.
No account, nothing to breach
Pouncify has no signup, no login and no user database. Usage data arrives under a random install identifier with no name, email or address attached — there is nothing that ties it to you.
Your data, your delete key
All app data lives in a local folder under your user profile, in an open format (SQLite). The app has a one-click full reset that wipes it, and uninstalling then deleting that folder removes every trace.
This website
pouncify.com is a static site: it sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from third parties. If you enter your email to be told about the launch, it is sent to this site's own domain — not to a form or mailing-list company — and stored solely to send you that one message. Nothing else is collected with it, and it is never sold or shared. Ask us to delete it at any time and we will.
